Park Further Away
Whether you drive to work, the shopping center or anywhere else, the temptation is to park as close to the entrance as possible. Park further away,put on some comfy shoes for walking on concrete and walk to the entrance. Not only will you get those extra steps in, most of the congestion is close to the entrance so you can avoid that. Extra steps and less stress are a win-win for you.
Set A Reminder
Work gets so busy and it’s easy to forget or neglect your need to take better care of yourself and walk. Set a reminder on your smartphone to get you out of your chair after every working hour. Walk to the bathroom or get yourself a cup of coffee or water. Take the long way around the office and increase those steps even more. The added bonus is that you will not be sitting down all day which can aggravate a lot of health issues so get out of that chair and move as often as you can.

Instead of taking the elevator to your office, take the stairs instead. If you work in a high-rise building, several floors up, you can combine taking the elevator and the stairs.

How many inter-office emails do you send and receive in a day? Most people will send a work colleague an email just to check the details of a particular report or project. Why not walk over to your colleague and discuss the details face to face?
Walk At Lunch Time
Use your lunch break to increase your daily step count. You can walk to your favorite café or restaurant to get your lunch or, bring lunch from home and walk to the park and eat your lunch there. Your furry friend needs to walk everyday and will really love walking with you. Instead of just walking your dog in the evening, take a walk in the morning as well. Sure, you’ll have to wake up a little earlier but you and your dog will have a great start to the day. Don’t neglect that evening walk though.

No, we don’t mean blow your entire budget in one shopping trip but when you go to do your shopping, spend a little extra time doing the rounds of the entire complex. If you’re shopping for a particular item, you’ll be able to see what’s on sale and walk more as well. Even if you’re just shopping for groceries, walk around anyway. Shopping centers are full of distractions and attractions so you can increase your steps, without being bored.
Join A Walk For Charity
Many charities organize walks to raise funds for their causes. See which charities are organizing walks in your area and join in the fun. This is a great way to feel good all-around because you’ll be doing something good for yourself and others.
Clean Your House
You’d be amazed at how many steps you can amass when you clean your house. Not only will you be walking while you are cleaning, you’ll also be doing a lot of walking back and forth as you get brooms, mops and detergents.
Take A Hike
There is no better way to reach your daily steps amount than to go hiking. You can hike for an hour or two, or even a whole day. You’ll get your steps out of the way and enjoy some great scenery too.
