Top Tips To Keep Your Feet Cool In The Summer
How To Keep Your Feet Cool In The Summer
After a long winter, we all look forward to summer. The days are warmer and sunnier so we tend to spend as much time outdoors as we can. Fortunately, the days are also longer which gives us more time to enjoy our favorite activities.
One thing that may not be so great about summer is hot, sweaty feet. Apart from being uncomfortable, it can also clear a room full of people when these hot, sweaty feet mutate into horrible smelly ones. There are ways you can avoid this embarrassing situation and keep your cool too. Here are some top tips to keep your feet cool in the summer.
Let Your Feet Breathe
As often as possible, take off your shoes and socks and let your feet breathe. All that cool air on your feet will not only cool them down, but it will allow them to dry as well. The absence of moisture on your feet will do wonders at preventing foot odor as bacteria and fungus rely on moisture to multiply.
Keep Your Feet And Shoes Clean
Foot hygiene is essential in keeping your feet cool and, more importantly, smelling fresh. Wash your feet thoroughly at the end of the day. This is especially important if you work in hot conditions with shoes and socks all day. You should also make sure you keep your shoes clean as well.
Alternate Your Shoes
As mentioned above, keeping your shoes clean is a must to keep your feet cool and prevent a nasty foot odor problem. However, keeping your shoes clean is not possible if you are wearing them every single day. Shoes take a long time to dry which means if you have washed them, they may not have dried completely by the next day. The worst thing you can do is put on shoes that are still damp. Keep your shoes clean and fresh by alternating a few pairs throughout the week. This will give all of your shoes a chance to dry completely before you wear them again and by not sweating in the same pair every day, they will not accumulate bacteria and fungus.
Grab The Deodorant
If you’re careful with your hygiene, you probably have a can of antiperspirant deodorant in your bathroom and may carry a spare one with you wherever you go. Don’t just use it under your arms. You can also give your feet a nice spray as well. The antiperspirant properties will prevent your feet from over sweating and the deodorant will keep them smelling fresh. If you are worried about spraying this on your feet every day, there are antiperspirant deodorants that have been specially formulated for your feet.
While you’re shopping for deodorant for your body, grab one for your shoes as well. These shoe deodorizers contain active ingredients that tackle the bacteria, fungus, and moisture in shoes and will keep your shoes smelling fresh.
No one likes to wear socks in summer but if you must, make sure you get good quality socks made from breathable materials. Cotton socks are a good choice as they allow your feet to breathe but it is better to opt for moisture wicking socks. The drier your feet stay, the cooler they are and they are less likely to develop into smelly feet.
End The Day With A Soak
Sometimes, no matter what you do, your feet will feel hot and uncomfortable. It may be due to your working conditions or you may just be the type of person that never has cold feet. If your feet are hot and you want to cool down, simply end your day by soaking your feet in a basin of cool, not cold, water. You can do this in the comfort of your home, sit on the edge of a swimming pool, or dangle your feet in a river while you sit comfortably on the bank. It is summer after all, so enjoy it.
Avoid Dark Colors
You’ve probably been encouraged for most of your life to wear light-colored clothing when you’re out in the sun as dark colors tend to absorb the sun and heat, whereas white or light-colored ones reflect the heat. This same principle applies to shoes. If you must spend a lot of time in the sun, wear white sneakers or canvas shoes and keep your cool.
Keep A Fan Under Your Desk
If you find it impossible to keep your feet cool during the summer months and feel uncomfortable at your desk all day, keep a small fan under your desk and direct the flow of air at your feet. The cool air will keep your feet cool and dry throughout the day and if your feet are cool, the rest of your will be too.
